The Galil is a different sort of sniper rifle. The Isreal defense department took the standard Galil assualt rifle, rechambered it to 7.62x51mm NATO, added a slick little adjustable stock that folds for transport, mounted the bipod to the front of the reciever (as opposed to the barrel), added a two stage trigger and mounted a scope on the side of the reciever to avoid mounting to the stamped reciever on top the rifle. I have yet to get the opportunity to use this rifle, so I do not have a concrete opinion. My first impression is that the rifle will perform like an accurized assualt rifle, and not like a true sniper rifle. But of course I can be proven wrong.

The rifle does incorporate some nice features, but it seems like the rifle was just designed to extend the range of the standard infantry (Much like the Russian SVD). If you have any experience with this rifle, please email me!

A few comments I have recieved from actual guys with hands on experience:

"...Galil is not a perfect snipers rifle, in the sense americans expect, but is a manageable and EXTREMELY dependable firearm completely suited to its mission..." (julie, via email)

"...The best five shot group I could get at 100 yds was around 1.5" I found the bipod a bit sloppy and the two stage trigger problematic in terms of maintaining stability during trigger pull. All in all, not a bad weapon for suppression fire in an urban application but I wouldn't want to take a surgical shot with it..." (steve, via email)

Thanks for your input guys!
